Hazardous wastes are types of waste that could potentially be harmful to either the environment or to human health. It is illegal to dispose of hazardous waste as general waste, as hazardous waste requires special treatment before it is recycled or disposed. As a waste producer, it is therefore essential that your waste is disposed properly through the correct processes.
With Network Waste Solutions, we ensure that your hazardous waste is collected and treated in the most environmentally-friendly ways possible. We have hazardous waste treatment depots throughout the UK who specialise in the treatment and recycling of a wide range of hazardous wastes, including: -
- Plaster Board,
- Asbestos,
- Fridges, Freezer and Air Conditioners,
- Waste Electrical Appliances (WEEE),
- Tyres,
- Fluorescent Light Tubes,
- Batteries,
- Paints, Varnishes, Solvents and other chemicals,
- Aerosols and Gas Canisters,
- Hazardous / Contaminated Liquid, including Sewage,
- Oils and Fuels.
Legal requirements
As a hazardous waste producer, you are required by law to register as a hazardous waste producer with the Environment Agency. Failure to comply with the registration can result in large fines and / or prison sentences, depending on the severity.
As specialists in hazardous waste management, Network Waste Solutions can determine whether you will need to be registered, and help you complete the necessary forms to register as a hazardous waste producer.
What happens to my hazardous waste?
With many hazardous waste depots throughout the UK, Network Waste collects your hazardous waste from your site, and transports it to a local depot. The hazardous waste depots are able to break down a good proportion of the hazardous waste that they process into raw elements, such as metals. These elements are then used for recycling. The remains that cannot be recycled are treated, making them safe for general disposal.
Not sure if your waste is hazardous?
Sometimes, there may be a grey-area as to whether a particular waste that you produce is hazardous or not. For example, your company might produce a waste sludge as a by-product of manufacturing, and you might not be completely sure whether it is safe to dispose as general liquid waste or not.
Network Waste Solutions are able to visit your site and send off samples of your potentially hazardous waste for analysis at one of our many hazardous waste treatment sites across the UK. Based on the results, we can then advise whether the waste is hazardous, and recommend the best solutions for disposing the waste.
